The CA3 group is composed of a research and development team and a group of qualified scientific advisors directly involved in R&D projects where CA3 is a partner.

We also have a variable number of visiting scientists and collaborators working with us. The former member section has previous group members.

António Falcão - Research and Development Team
Short Bio

António J. Falcão is a project manager and research engineer at the CA3 Computational Intelligence Research Group at Uninova (New Technologies Research Institute) working on projects for the European Space Agency since 2002. He holds a Licenciatura in Computer Science Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the New University of Lisbon, and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Computer Science Engineering from the same University.

He is also a Certified Scrum Master, as well as having several specific training courses, including Agile Requirements Management, Agile Estimation and Planning. He also concluded Software Engineering and Quality Assurance training courses, both organised by the European Space Agency.

From 2000 to 2002, he worked at ISQ at the Laboratory for Non-Destructive Testing developing a platform for visualisation and analysis of data from ultra-sonic probes for fault detection in pipeline welding using non-destructive inspection (NDI) methods.

Research Interests

In between project management tasks, I do some research where my interests are in automated analysis of large non-categorical time series datasets. I'm looking at automatic detection of correlations and patterns within these datasets, as well as focussing on the topic of causality between these non-categorical data. I have been working with data from the Space Weather domain.

This involves multi-disciplinary research, which includes areas such as Systems Analysis and Design (possibly Distributed), Software Engineering and Soft Computing. Scalability is a significant issue that must be taken into account. Reuse and integration are also fundamental and are a focus point of my research.
