Project Summary

Solar activity has heavy influence not only on the Earth's magnetic field and climate system, but also on our power, radio communications, air and spacecraft and orbiting satellites. To reduce negative effects as much as possible, it is in our interest to monitor and predict the Sun's activity.

The aim of the ESASOC project is to perform the detection and monitoring of solar phenomena, such as Coronal Bright Points (CBP), Coronal Holes (CH) or Active Regions (AR).

For this purpose, algorithms are designed to analyze images provided by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and detect the intended features.
